England Euro 1996 Shirt

By far the most exciting European Championships for England was on home soil in the guise of Euro 96. A superb side, which included the strike partnership of Shearer and Sheringham up front got us to the semi-finals, which we of course lost on penalties to Germany, just as we had done six years before.

However, England’s great run in the competition did include a 4-1 thrashing of highly fancied Holland that was dubbed “Total Football” by many pundits.

England 1990 World Cup shirt

Apart from the World Cup winning shirt of 1966, the most iconic image of all England retro football shirts, must be Gazza crying in the semi-final after he had received a needless booking and knew that whatever happened he would miss the final.

England lost the semi-final to Germany, in any case, on penalties and there were more tears, not just from Gazza. These Man United retro shirts are in a colour you would not normally associate with Manchester Utd, which is ironic as the 1968 European Cup Winning shirt commemorates the club’s greatest hour.

This Man Utd retro shirt was worn by Sir Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles, Brian Kidd and golden boy George Best, who won the European Player of the year partly on the back of his cup winning display in this match.

Manchester Utd 1978

This 1978 Man Utd retro shirt was actually the Centenary shirt and was a style worn by the United players throughout the late 1970′s, including the ’76, ’77 and 1979 FA Cup Finals.

Brazil 1960′s

In 1962, Brazil were able to achieve back-to-back World Cup victories by beating Czechoslovakia 3-1 in the final. Although Pele was a key part of the Brazillian team, it was Garrincha who was the star of the show and it was a brilliant performance from him, including two goals, which helped Brazil to a 3–1 win over England in the Quarter Finals.

Liverpool – The European Cup Winners 1977

The 1977 European Cup Final took place between Liverpool F.C. and Borussia Mönchengladbach, at the Stadio Olimpico, in Rome, on May 25th.

Liverpool, under the management of Bob Paisley, won the match 3–1 to win their first ever European Cup. It followed on from their UEFA Cup the previous year.
Who can forget the smiling Emlyn Hughes lifting the cup aloft wearing this vintage football shirt.

Liverpool 1986 Double Winners Shirt

A famous FA Cup final victory over Merseyside rivals Everton was enough to clinch the double, in 1986.

Celtic 1967 European Cup Shirt (with short sleeves)

This was the Celtic retro shirt as worn by Jimmy Johnstone, who wore number 7 for Celtic, and scored over 100 goals for Celtic.

Johnstone was also a member of their Lisbon Lions, who were the first British side to win the European Cup, when they beat Inter Milan, in 1967.

England started the competition badly, but managed to qualify for the knock-out stages by beating Poland 3-0, with a hat-trick from Gary Lineker.

Of course, England lost 2-1 to Argentina in the quarter finals, thanks to Maradona’s infamous “Hand of God”. However, Gary Lineker did finish the tournament as leading scorer with 6 goals, winning the golden boot award.

It was a tournament of what could have been, but one thing is for certain, you can definitely wear these England retro tracksuit tops with pride, when cheering the lads on this year.

England 1966 Jacket

This is more of a jacket than an England retro tracksuit top, but nonetheless this is a cool vintage design that will look great with a pair of jeans.

Manufactured by Umbro, this is the jacket worn by manager, Sir Alf Ramsey, in the 1966 World Cup triumph.

Gordon Banks is considered by many to be the greatest ever English keeper. In fact, in a poll carried out by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS), Banks was voted in as the second best goalkeeper of the 20th Century, behind Lev Yashin in 1st Place and in front of Dino Zoff in 3rd.

Such was Banks prowess between the sticks that a popular phrase in the English language was slightly changed in his honour to “Safe as the Banks of England.”

Gordon Banks is not only remembered for being a member of the England side that famously won the 1966 World Cup. He is probably equally remembered for the save he made against Pele in the 1970 World Cup.

Retro Tracksuit Tops - Portsmouth Retro

These retro tracksuit tops were originally worn by the Portsmouth team of the seventies, which included Kris Kamara, now more well known for his co-commentating on Sky Sports.

Johan Cruyff was the star in the “Total Football” Holland side, in the seventies. Although a striker, he felt equally at home in midfield or on the wings, where he would inevitably perform an amazing piece of skill that became commonly known as the “Cruyff Turn”.

Cruyff began his club career at Ajax, but having been voted European Player of the year for the 2nd time in 1973, he moved to Barcelona for what was then a world record fee of £922,300. At this time, he was considered by many to be the best player in the world.

Throughout his career, Cruyff played for a number of great sides, but below are perhaps his most iconic shirts. As well as the various Holland football shirts he appeared in, is of course his Barcelona retro shirts, which are unsurprisingly very popular.

However, our personal favourite is the the Dutch football shirt from the seventies, which will forever be synonymous with the legend that is Johan Cruyff.
